June 20, 2015Attorneys: Nolan E. Shanahan and Jason R. Finkelstein

This practical program will enable New Jersey attorneys who are licensed in New York, but do not practice there regularly, to feel more comfortable appearing before the New York courts. It will provide attendees with working knowledge of New York state court procedures as well as local practices, and distinguish them from practice in New Jersey.

Learn the answers to these common questions and gain the knowledge needed to practice in New York courts, including:

  • Where should I file? Which New York court fits my needs?
  • Where is the “Chancery Division” and what is the “Commercial Division”?
  • When and how do I respond to service of a Complaint?
  • What is a Request for Judicial Intervention (“RJI”), and do I need one in my case?
  • How do I get a Preliminary Conference (“PC”) before the judge?
  • Can I depose the other side’s expert prior to trial?
  • Is a motion appropriate at this time?
  • What is a note of issue?
  • Is an appeal proper at this time?
  • I received a judgment for my client – how do I enforce it?
